Pet Acupuncture
Veterinary acupuncture is an ancient healing method originating in China thousands of years ago. At Veterinaire Pet Care, we offer professional pet acupuncture services as a safe, effective treatment option for a variety of health conditions.
What is Pet Acupuncture?
Pet acupuncture involves placing tiny needles at specific points throughout the body, typically at bundles of nerves and junctions between nerves and muscles. According to Chinese medicine, living creatures have a life force or “Qi” which flows through certain meridians or pathways along the body. The needles serve to balance this Qi, stimulating nerve centers, enhancing blood circulation, and triggering the release of natural pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory substances.
For a more potent stimulus, electrical current can be attached to the needle, a technique called electro-acupuncture. This gentle vibration further stimulates the acupuncture points.
The Pet Acupuncture Experience
The needle insertion is very quick and typically painless, although some animals may experience the “De Qi” response, which is the body’s natural reaction to receiving the needle. Most pets relax and even fall asleep during treatment. The needles remain in place for approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the condition and patient.
We conduct pet acupuncture sessions in a quiet, distraction-free area of our hospital. Each treatment is tailored to your pet’s specific needs, with duration varying according to their condition and circumstances.
Benefits of Pet Acupuncture
Pet acupuncture can help significantly with:
- Pain management
- Inflammation and swelling reduction
- Nerve regeneration
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Intervertebral disc disease (both acute and chronic)
- Soft tissue trauma
- Cancer symptom management
- Kidney disease

Safe, Gentle Treatment
Pet acupuncture is one of the safest veterinary treatments available, with minimal side effects. Most pet parents report an overall sense of comfort and well-being in their pets after treatment. This virtually painless process relaxes muscle tissue and oxygenates the surrounding area, promoting faster healing.
One of the significant advantages of pet acupuncture is that it eliminates the need for pharmaceuticals, thereby avoiding the risk of overdose and adverse reactions. It can be readily combined with most traditional and alternative treatments for comprehensive care.
Is Pet Acupuncture Right for Your Pet?
If your pet is experiencing chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or dealing with age-related conditions, pet acupuncture may provide significant relief. Our experienced veterinarians can evaluate your pet’s condition and determine if acupuncture would be beneficial as part of their treatment plan.
