Routine Health Exams

At Veterinaire Pet Care, we understand that routine health examinations are the cornerstone of preventative medicine for your pet. Our team of experienced veterinarians provide thorough, comprehensive pet wellness exams designed to detect health issues before they become serious medical concerns.Ā

The Importance of Regular Examinations

Routine wellness exams help in the early detection and prevention of diseases, allow us to monitor chronic conditions effectively, and ensure your pet maintains optimal health throughout their life. By identifying potential health issues in their earliest stages, we can implement timely interventions to minimize discomfort and prevent complications.

What to Expect During Your Pet’s Examination

During a pet wellness exam, our veterinarians will:

  • Conduct a comprehensive physical assessment, examining all body systems
  • Review your pet’s medical history and discuss any concerns you may have
  • Evaluate your pet’s weight, body condition, and nutritional status
  • Assess dental health and recommend appropriate dental care
  • Examine eyes, ears, skin, and coat for abnormalities
  • Listen to heart and lungs to detect cardiovascular or respiratory issues
  • Palpate the abdomen to evaluate internal organ health
  • Check joints and muscles for mobility and signs of pain
  • Recommend appropriate laboratory diagnostics when indicated

Age-Appropriate Vaccination Protocols

For puppies: We administer DHPP (Distemper-Hepatitis-Parainfluenza-Parvo) vaccines at 6-8 weeks of age, followed by boosters every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. Rabies vaccines are administered between three and six months of age, with the first vaccine effective for one year and subsequent vaccines lasting three years. We also recommend the Bordetella vaccine for dogs in our urban environment, where dogs frequently encounter each other in close proximity.

For kittens and adult cats, we follow the American Association of Feline Practitioners’ vaccination guidelines, tailoring vaccination protocols to your cat’s lifestyle and risk factors.

Diagnostic Screening

Based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and health status, we may recommend:

  • Fecal examinations to detect intestinal parasites
  • Heartworm testing for dogs
  • FeLV/FIV testing for cats
  • Comprehensive bloodwork to evaluate organ function
  • Urinalysis to assess kidney function and urinary health
  • Additional diagnostic tests as indicated by physical examination findings

Senior Pet Wellness

As pets enter their senior years, we recommend more frequent examinations—typically every six months—to monitor age-related changes and address emerging health concerns promptly. Senior pet examinations include more comprehensive diagnostic screening to detect common age-related conditions early when they’re most treatable.
